Is the PSPhone Really Real?

After rumors surfaced a few weeks back that Sony was working on a handheld gaming phone dubbed the PSPhone, Sony Ericsson CEO Bert Nordberg added to the speculation, which make us believe the device is inevitably in the works. Nordberg told the Wall Street Journal, “There’s a lot of smoke, and I tell you there must be a fire somewhere….Sony is of course a very strong brand, and why shouldn’t we use that? Gaming, including content, is a very interesting proposition.” The publication also claims the gadget will actually come from the Sony Xperia smartphone brand, which runs on the popular Android OS; leading to the possibility of apps and game downloads from the ever-growing Android Market. Sounds more promising than the PSP 2 already.

[Update] Nowhereelse.FR reports Sony will announce the PSPhone on December 9th. This should be interesting!
